Global dividends reached a record of $544.8 billion in Q2
The Janus Henderson Global Dividend Index tracked the volume of dividends. According to its data, the amount reached an all-time high.
Banks and financial institutions made the biggest payouts in the second quarter of 2022 - nearly a quarter of the total, or $140 billion. That's 15.7% more than in the first quarter of 2022.
Companies in the fuel and energy sector increased their dividends the most. They paid about $45 billion to shareholders in the second quarter of 2022, an 88% increase over the first quarter of 2022. The growth was affected by high energy prices.
U.S. companies set a record for payouts, distributing more than $144 billion to shareholders. European organizations accounted for $165.8 billion of the total.
Overall, the quarterly increase in global dividend payments was 11.3%, source.
