Gautam Adani becomes world’s third-richest person as wealth surges
Indian businessman Gautam Adani has become the third richest man in the world.
For the first time, an Asian has made it into the world's top three wealth leaders, his compatriot Mukesh Ambani and Chinese businessman Jack Ma have never climbed so high in the ranking. With a fortune of $137.4 billion, Adani has overtaken Frenchman Bernard Arnault and is now second only to Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos.
Adani, 60, has spent the past few years expanding his conglomerate, which has led to an increase of more than 1,000% in the stocks that make up the Adani Group since 2020.
In 2022 alone, Adani's fortune increased by $60.9 billion, five times more than anyone else's. He surpassed Mukesh Ambani as the richest Asian man for the first time in February, became a centi-billionaire in April, and last month surpassed Bill Gates to become the fourth richest man in the world, Bloomberg.
