The Biden administration fears Trump's return to Twitter after Musk's purchase of the social network.
Presidential administration officials are allowing a surge of misinformation on Twitter, which they believe could negatively impact Democrats and Biden in the run-up to the midterm elections for U.S. Congress in the fall and the 2024 presidential race.
"Trump will now use Twitter to do much more damage and regain power in 2022 and 2024, while Elon Musk has made no guarantees that he will do anything to stop him," veteran Democrat Mary Ann Marsh told CNBC.
Trump himself told CNBC that he would not return to Twitter after Musk bought the platform. He plans to stay on the social network TRUTH, which was created at his initiative.
