1656: anti-Christ Rabbi Menashe Ben Yisrael applied for permis | This day in jew history

1656: anti-Christ Rabbi Menashe Ben Yisrael applied for permission to practice talmudic Judaism in England to Cromwell's government.
Anti-Christs had been expelled in 1290 and only because of Cromwell were tolerated now. The Council of State granted permission. Cromwell and his followers were Puritans. They acceded to the readmission of anti-Christs to England at the behest of some very rich anti-Christs, like Luis Carvajal, who believed that the jewish messiah could not take come until anti-Christs populated all parts of the world.
Cromwell unfortunately died 2 short years later at the age of 59.

Attached is the letter the rabbi had delivered to Cromwell
