Lee Mingwei’s 'Our Labyrinth' has come to life at Tate Modern.
From today until 15 June, dancers transform the act of sweeping into a mesmerising performance, bringing a meditative sense of ritual into the #TurbineHall. Inspired by Lee Mingwei's experience of visiting ancient temples in Myanmar, where paths leading to temples are swept by volunteers, the two performers move slowly as they brush grains of rice into patterns, accompanied by a gentle tickling of bells from their ankles. The dancers sweep to create a winding labyrinth-like path within a precise space, similar to an ink pool.
See the performance at tomorrow's #TateLates at Tate Modern, alongside a conversation with #LeeMingwei at 8pm in the Starr cinema.
