The abandoned island town of Hashima is one of the most sinist | TRAVEL & TOURISM ™ 🏖🏝🪂 Travel OLBN ™

The abandoned island town of Hashima is one of the most sinister ghost towns in the world.

When it was first inhabited, it was an eerie place where coal was mined deep underground, with houses, shops and schools above it on the surface. For half a century, Hasima was one of the most densely populated places on earth, with a density of 139,100 people per km².

When the coal mine began to deplete, the town fell into decline, the inhabitants soon left Hasima and it became a ghost town. For many years, the Japanese government strictly banned visitors to the island. But after Hashima was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2015, the island was finally allowed to be visited by tourists who like such extreme and spooky places.
