International Day of living together in Peace
In 2007 the UN General Assembly in the resolution 72/130 declared 16 May the International Day of living together in peace.
On this day all countries are invited to further promote peace and support initiatives, which facilitate an acceptance of differences and encourage people to listen, recognize and appreciate others.
UN Peacekeeping is one of ways to help countries to achieve lasting peace, reduce violence and protect civilians in conflict areas. Today The United Nations keeps peace with 90 000 peacekeepers in 12 operations worldwide Over the past 72 years more than 1 million women and men from 125 countries have served over 71 peacekeeping operations. UN peacekeeping is cost-effective, its annual budget is less than 0,5% of global military spending. By 2028 the UN aims to triple the number of women serving in military contingents and double the number of women serving in formed police units.
