German scientists created the first artificial muscle from ela | Trend Review: IT, technology, business

German scientists created the first artificial muscle from elastin, a common animal protein.

It is elastin that gives elasticity to skin, vessel walls, bladder and other tissues.

A press release from the University of Freiburg reports that the researchers developed two elastin-like proteins, one of which responds to fluctuations in pH (changes in acid-base balance) and the other to temperature.

Programmable muscles can find applications not only in medicine but also in robotics.
