DeepMind's new artificial intelligence can perform more than 600 tasks, from playing games to controlling robots.
In the world of artificial intelligence (AI), the height of achievement is considered to be creating a system with artificial general intelligence (AGI), or the ability to understand and learn any task that a human can perform.
This week DeepMind released an AGI model called Gato.
Researchers trained Gato to perform 604 tasks, namely adding captions to images, participating in dialogues, stacking blocks with a real robot hand and playing games.
For example, Google uses a similar system called the multitasking unified model, or MUM, which can process text, images and video to perform tasks ranging from finding cross-language variants of word spellings to matching a search query to an image. Google Lens and the company's other products run on the MUM model.
Gato is a new level, an improved technology.
