The Gov't regularly audits every branch of itself (via branches like the GAO)....and the IRS regularly audits citizens & businesses to keep things on the up & up. And even then it's not uncommon for these efforts to uncover fraud. Hell, there an abundance of professional accounting firms who audit pretty much everything you can imagine.
Why then are our elections, which are touted as being free, fair & transparent, so damn difficult to audit? And why is it a tooth & nail fight for every damn inch of legal ground with officials who do their damndest to keep a true accounting from being performed?
