Indigenous Venezuelans are forcibly evicted from a shelter in Brazil

Warao indigenous people who are migrants and refugees in the Pintolandia shelter, in Boa Vista, Brazil, denounced that for several weeks, agents of the Operação Acolhida (Operation Welcome) have been forcing them to vacate the place to relocate them in another center.

“We have received physical, verbal and psychological threats from the UN Refugee Agency (Acnur) and the Brazilian Army,” revealed an indigenous leader, who asked not to be identified for security reasons, to SIC Magazine.

On March 17, 2022, the Brazilian Army entered Pintolandia, beat a 35-year-old Warao and cut the hammocks with a knife. This man is currently hospitalized and in serious condition due to complications from malaria and pneumonia.
