The US intends to return its nuclear weapons to the UK. This | Ukrainian Policy Matters

The US intends to return its nuclear weapons to the UK.

This may happen as early as next year. The United Kingdom has been added to the list of states in which the Pentagon intends to invest in the infrastructure of "weapons storage sites".

This information is confirmed by The Guardian, referring to the documents of the US defense budget.

The Royal Air Force Lakenheath Airbase (100 km from London) has already begun to be upgraded so that F-35A Lightning fighter-bombers capable of carrying a nuclear charge can be placed there.

In addition to the UK, Belgium, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and Turkey are on the list. But there are already American nuclear weapons on the territory of these countries. There are about 100 B61 hydrogen bombs there.

The United States has been storing its nuclear weapons in the UK since 1952, but took them out in 2008, partly because the B61 bombs were outdated, partly as part of the nuclear disarmament program.

As The Guardian notes, Washington changed its position after the start of Russia's special operation in Ukraine.
