UK inflation jumps to 40-year high

The British economy was hit harder than most other developed countries, writes Bloomberg. Consumer prices rose 9% year-to-date through April, the fastest pace since 1982.

This increase is twice the rate of growth in wages, which reduces the purchasing power of the British to a record. The last time such inflation was observed during the crisis during the premiership of Margaret Thatcher.

The rise in prices is associated with an increase in the cost of fuel against the backdrop of anti-Russian sanctions.

The day before, Sky News reported that, according to polls, 27% of Britons began to eat less, and 65% of those surveyed turned off the heating to save money.
