In June 2020, an ancient ship about 10 meters long thawed out of the permafrost in Naryan-Mar, northern Russia.
The fact that it was not a modern boat was confirmed by the forged nails fastening the remains of the hull. Bones of some animals were found above the hull.
Black soil, which looked like humus, was visible. But there is no such layer of humus in these latitudes. Naryan-Mar is located in the tundra zone in a subarctic area with permafrost. It turns out that there was a big boat on the bank of the ancient river, and it was covered by the mudflow.
Is it possible to date the ship? Yes, the nails fastening the hull are made of iron.
On the one hand, this suggests that the find is only a few hundred years old, but on the other hand - the permafrost is tens of thousands.
Either scientists will have to accept the version of a recent cataclysm and the formation of permafrost, or shift the timing of the onset of the Iron Age.
