Around 75,660 candidates enrolled for upcoming trainings in a week
10.94 lakh youth have been trained and 7.07 lakh youth have been placed till July, 2021
The Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD) announced it on Antyodaya Diwas in 2014.
It is a demand-driven placement linked skill training initiative working under the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM).
It uses skill training and placement in wage employment as a tool to diversify income and enable sustained upward movement out of poverty.
DDU-GKY is uniquely focused on rural youth between the ages of 15 and 35 years from poor families.
Objective:
Adding diversity to the incomes of rural poor families
Cater to the career aspirations of rural youth
Alumni meet is an important component of the scheme.
The Alumni meets provide healthy ground for experience sharing by the former trainees with their present counterparts on topics like placements, career goals, challenges they faced in finding employment before undertaking the training and the benefits they reaped after.
Some of the former trainees are also felicitated at the events for their exemplary performances at their workplaces.
The program is currently being implemented in 27 States and 3 Union Territories and has over 2198 Training Centres in 1822 projects, in partnership with 839 Project Implementing Agencies conducting training across 56 sectors, and over 600 job-roles
DDU-GKY and integrated farming initiatives for rural development across the country are important for greater success in skilling and placing the rural youth.
DDU-GKY has played a significant role in the context of Atmanirbhar Bharat through skilling.
As a part of the Skill India campaign, it plays an instrumental role in supporting the social and economic programs.

2021-08-29 06:03:31 PM greets Nation on World Sanskrit Day

Every year on Sawan Poornima in the Hindu calendar, World Sanskrit Day (also known as Sanskrit Diwas) is observed.
Being the first spoken and oldest language, Sanskrit holds significance in the ancient history of India.
It is also considered as the Dev Vani which translates to the ‘language of Gods.’
Despite all this, Sanskrit is not getting the recognition.
As a result, World Sanskrit Day is celebrated all across the country in order to promote the resurgence and preservation of this language.
According to the Hindu calendar, on every Poornima of Shravana month, Sanskrit day is observed.
The day also marks the holy festival of Raksha Bandhan.
In 1969, With the intent of illuminating the next generation about the ancient Indian language, the Government of India decided to celebrate Sanskrit Diwas on the auspicious occasion of Raksha Bandhan.
Sanskrit is believed to be an Indo-Aryan language, which is said to have originated around 3500 years ago.
However, in the scriptures, the Sanskrit language is thought to have originated in the second millennium BCE, when the Rig Veda was composed.
This Indo-Aryan language has been designated as a classical language recognised for its scientific composition and is in high demand all over the world.
The language also impressed some Europeans. Sir William Jones, an English scholar, arrived in India in 1783 as a judge of the British Supreme Court in Calcutta.
He was the Asian Society’s founder. He translated the Sanskrit author Kalidasa’s Abhijnana Shakuntala and Ritu Samhara as well as Jayadeva’s Gita Govinda into English.
Manusmriti was also translated into English by Jones.
The major goal of this day was to encourage its use outside traditional puja mandaps — in conversational discourse.
The language that was once known as the “mother of all languages" is now one of the least spoken.
While numerous languages arose from this language, we began learning other languages as a result of it.

Adopt ISRO protocol to track stubble burning data

Ahead of the harvesting season, the Commission for Air Quality Management in the NCR and Adjoining Areas has directed Delhi and its neighbouring states to adopt and implement a standard protocol that has been developed by the ISRO for the estimation of crop residue burning fire events using satellite data.

This protocol is based on remote sensing technology, by which all states can now collect data in an organized and cohesive manner.

Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM):

It was constituted for better coordination, research, identification, and resolution of problems related to air quality in the National Capital Region (NCR) and adjoining areas.

The commission looks at the mitigation and management of stubble burning in the NCR, which leads to high levels of air pollution and poor air quality every winter.

Its coverage areas are the NCR and the areas adjoining the NCR in the States of Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh, where any source of pollution is located.

There will be three sub-committees to assist the commission,

sub-committee on monitoring and identification

sub-committee on safeguarding and enforcement

sub-committee on research and development.

Functions of the Commission:

co-ordinating actions taken under the Ordinance by concerned state governments (Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh),

planning and executing plans to prevent and control air pollution in the NCR,

providing a framework for identification of air pollutants,

conducting research and development through networking with technical institutions,

training and creating a special workforce to deal with issues related to air pollution,

preparing various action plans such as increasing plantation and addressing stubble burning.

Powers of the Commission:

Restricting activities influencing air quality

Investigating and conducting research related to environmental pollution impacting air quality

Preparing codes and guidelines to prevent and control air pollution

Issuing directions on matters including inspections, or regulation which will be binding on the concerned person or authority.

It may impose and collect environment compensation from farmers causing pollution by stubble burning. This compensation will be prescribed by the central government.

Causes of air pollution in NCR:

Vehicular emission

stubble burning in neighboring states

heavy industry such as power generation,

small-scale industries like brick kilns,

suspended dust on the roads due to vehicle movement and construction activities,

open waste burning,

combustion of fuels for cooking, lighting, and heating,

in-situ power generation via diesel generator sets

Over-population

firecrackers.
