Labour Ministry announces additional benefits through ESIC & EPFO schemes for dependents of workers passing away due to COVID-19
Ministry of Labour and Employment has announced additional benefits for workers through ESIC and EPFO schemes to address the fear and anxiety of workers about well-being of their family members due to increase in incidences of death due to COVID -19. Currently if an Insured Person dies or gets disabled while discharging duties, a life long pension equivalent to 90 per cent of average daily wage drawn by the worker is available to the spouse and widowed mother and for children till they attain the age of 25 years. For the female child, the benefit is available till her marriage.

Government launches YUVA – Prime Minister’s Scheme For Mentoring Young Authors
The Department of Higher Education under Ministry of Education, has launched a new initiative called ‘YUVA- Prime Minister’s Scheme For Mentoring Young Authors’ YUVA stands for Young, Upcoming and Versatile Authors. It is an Author Mentorship programme to train young and budding authors, below 30 years of age to promote reading, writing and book culture in the country, and project India and Indian writings globally. The National Book Trust, India under the Ministry of Education will be the Implementing Agency for the scheme.

IBF to be renamed as Indian Broadcasting and Digital Foundation (IBDF)
The Indian Broadcasting Foundation (IBF), the apex body of broadcasters in India, is being renamed as Indian Broadcasting and Digital Foundation (IBDF). The decision to rename IBF has been taken as IBF is expanding its purview to cover digital platforms to bring all digital (OTT) players under one roof. IBDF will be forming a new wholly-owned subsidiary to handle all matters pertaining to digital media.

IIT Ropar develop ‘FakeBuster’ tool to detect imposters in video conferences & manipulated Faces on social media
The Indian Institute of Technology Ropar (IIT-Ropar) in Punjab has developed a unique detector named ‘FakeBuster’, that would be helpful to identify and prevent imposters from attending video conferencing and manipulated faces on social media. The tool has been developed by IIT Ropar in partnership with Australia based Monash University.
