MOVING BLACKHOLE WITHIN THE HOST GALAXY.
#Space◇ Scientists have discovered the
first moving supermassive black hole whose mass is about
three million times that of our Sun.
◇ The black hole was travelling within its own galaxy,
J0437+2456, which is around
228 million lightyears away from Earth.
◇ Researchers used
radio antennas placed at great distances from each other to form a giant reception net for masers emitting from the moving black hole.
◇ Then, using a technique, called very
long baseline interferometry (VLBI), they calculated the velocities of the
10 black holes under survey.
◇ In VLBI, a signal from an astronomical radio source, such as a
quasar, is collected at multiple radio telescopes on Earth or in space.
◇ The distance between the radio telescopes is then calculated using the time difference between the arrivals of the radio signal at different telescopes.
