#prelims 2021 83 days to go..

HUL DIVAS

1.Hul Divas is observed annually on June 30 in memory of tribals — Sidho and Kanhu Murmu — who
led the Santhal hul (rebellion) on June 30, 1855, at Bhognadih in Sahebganj district.
2.People, mostly Santhals from Jharkhand and neighbouring states, gather there in large numbers to celebrate what they think was the first people’s action against the British

Zardozi or zari weaving

1.zardozi, an art patronised by the Mughals that involves weaving metallic threads — earlier made of
gold and silver — on fabric to create intricate patterns
2.Surat in the state of Gujarat on the west coast of India is the world's largest producer of all types of zari namely threads, cantile, laces, ribbons, borders, trims, fringes, edges, cordonettes, cords, etc.

Warli painting

1.Warli painting is a form of tribal art mostly created by the tribal people from the North Sahyadri Range in Maharashtra, India. This tribal art was originated in Maharashtra, where it is still practiced today.
2.These rudimentary wall paintings use a set of basic geometric shapes: a circle, a triangle, and a
square. These shapes are symbolic of different elements of nature.
3.The ritual paintings are usually created on the inside walls of village huts. The walls are made of a mixture of branches, earth and red brick that make a red ochre background for the paintings. The Warli only paint with a white pigment made from a mixture of rice flour and water, with gum as a binder.

Bal Gangadhar Tilak’s 100th death anniversary

1.Tilak was an Indian nationalist, teacher, and an independence activist. He was one third of the Lal Bal
Pal triumvirate. Tilak was the first leader of the Indian Independence Movement. The British colonial
authorities called him "The father of the Indian unrest."
2.Tilak was one of the first and strongest advocates of Swaraj ("self-rule") and a strong radical in Indian consciousness. He is known for his quote in Marathi: "Swarajya is my birth right and I shall have it!”
3.Tilak sought to unite the Indian population for mass political action throughout his life. For this to
happen, he believed there needed to be a comprehensive justification for anti-British pro-Hindu activism. For this end, he sought justification in the supposed original principles of the Ramayana and
the Bhagavad Gita.
