Juneteenth is a celebration of the day—over two years after the Emancipation Proclamation and two months after the end of the Civil War—when all enslaved people in the United States were finally freed. Sometimes known as Jubilee Day, Emancipation Day or Freedom Day, Juneteenth became a federal holiday in 2021.
