Scat XXVII Colonel Robin Olds stands in front of his Vietnam | U.S History

Scat XXVII

Colonel Robin Olds stands in front of his Vietnam War mount, the F-4C Phantom serial number 64-0829, better known as Scat XXVII. The jet was assigned to the 433rd Tactical Fighter Squadron “Satan’s Angels”, 8th Tactical Fighter Wing our of Ubon RTAFB in Thailand. The 433rd TFS emblem is on the nose of Olds’ F-4, just above his name, the name of his WSO, 1st Lieutenant Stephen Lafferty and the jet’s crew chief, Staff Sergeant Jarman. Two red stars signifying MiG kills made by Olds can be seen the the Phantom’s port splitter plate. Those MiG kills were made on 20 May 1967, when Olds and his WSO at the time, 1st Lieutenant Stephen Crocker shot down two VPAF MiG-17s
