In this painting by Tom Freeman, the artist depicts the moment USS Oklahoma (BB-37) begins to capsize during the attack on Pearl Harbor. Maryland (BB-46) is seen moored inside of the Oklahoma, with the West Virginia (BB-48) also beginning to sink just behind. The bridge and masts of the Tennessee (BB-43) can be seen moored next to the West Virginia.
Today marks the 77th anniversary of the Japanese surprise attack on Pearl Harbor. The United States suffered 2335 men killed with another 1143 wounded. The Japanese lost 64 aviators and 29 aircraft along with one sailor captured. There were also 68 civilians killed and 35 wounded.
