A German startup has introduced an electric version of Lada Niva for €20,000

Elantrie technology reduces maintenance costs more than in half. While owners of Lada Niva spend about €3,175 a year on petrol the electric Niva needs about €1,174 at German prices.

For the Elantrie, the company installed LifePo4 batteries that can withstand 9000 charging cycles. The company claims that this is enough for about 25 years, after which the remaining capacity will be reduced to 80%. The mileage is 130-300 km/charge, depending on road conditions. A gasoline engine was replaced by an electric unit with an output of 65 kW (88 hp).
