Our ongoing concerns regarding the amendments include;
• It will still allow for discrimination based on a person’s characteristics and attributes for the prevention of a public health risk. This could result in lawfully locking down certain ‘classes of people’ if they pose a risk to public health.
• The detention of individuals found in breach of public health orders are still reviewed internally by authorised officers (who are employed by the Department of Health) and not by an independent Court. There are no checks and balances.
• Authorised officers (which consist of unelected public servants) still hold the subjective right to take action as they see fit if they believe there is a public health risk. There is no independent body responsible for reviewing their actions.
• The process for appointing ‘independent experts’ to form part of the Independent Pandemic Management Advisory Committee.
The powers provided in this Bill are permanent and will remain long after the Andrews Government is in office. The Bill cannot be amended safely and must be scrapped in its entirety

5. Email/call liberals and crossbenchers in upper house about Health legislation Bill , please see our summary pinned, we encourage our community to take action by contacting their MPs with the following points;
• This Bill takes away one’s fundamental right to privacy and to personal choice.
• This Bill is not fit to be legislated in its current form.
• The Bill must be amended to provide people with the ability to opt-out of their medical information being shared.
• The Bill needs to define how a patient would be compensated if a breach of their medical information were to occur.
• Further details must be provided as to the management and security of the database before the implementation of the legislation, not after
