Mexican president apologizes for the massacre of Chinese migrants in 1911
From 13 to 15 May 1911, in the northern city of Torreón, amid the Mexican Revolution, 303 Chinese were killed in a racially motivated massacre.
110 years later, the Mexican state officially apologized for this act of violence.
At the ceremony attended by Chinese Ambassador to Mexico Zhu Qingqiao, Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said: "The Mexican state will never again tolerate racism, discrimination and xenophobia."
Obrador also took the opportunity to thank Xi Jinping and the Chinese government for their support in helping Mexico with medicines and vaccines in their fight against COVID-19. “I want to say that we will never forget the brotherhood of China in the bitter and agonizing months of the pandemic, for the caring support we received,” he said.
China has already dispatched 38 planes with medical supplies, including ventilators and diagnostic tests, as well as six million doses of Sinovac vaccines, Obrador said.
