The cathedral of St John of Besançon was home to an astronomical clock in the 19th century. It was equipped with a complex and precise mechanism comprising more than 30,000 parts and 11 moving parts. The dials displayed many parameters, including the date, time of year, time of day, movement of the planets, solar and lunar eclipses, solstices, tide hours in various ports, Easter dates, and day and night watches in various cities.
