The Maruyama Zoo in Sapporo has been trying to breed two toucans for more than five years.
The staff did what they could: they built comfortable nests and changed their diet. The birds flirted but did not produce offspring. Recently, a DNA test on the birds revealed that they had been trying to breed two females all that time!
