The Bund Finance Centre – a major new mixed-use development jointly designed by Foster + Partners and Heatherwick Studio – is set to revitalise Shanghai’s waterfront. Occupying a prominent site on the Bund, the buildings define the 'end point' to Shanghai's most famous street. The 420,000- square metre masterplan is highly permeable for pedestrians, with the design conceived as a point of connection between the old town and the new financial district.

Inspired by this urban context, two 180-metre landmark towers are placed in the south of the site, while the buildings facing the waterfront are staggered in height and relate in scale and rhythm to the grand nineteenth-century landmarks along the Bund. At the heart of the scheme is a flexible arts and cultural centre, home to the Fosun Foundation, which combines exhibition and events halls with a performance venue, inspired by the open stages of traditional Chinese theatres.

Evolution Tower, the skyscraper designed by Tony Kettel and Karen Forbes, became a landmark in Moscow’s new urban skyscape throughout it's construction between 2011 and 2014, the year in which it was completed.

Since 2016, when it was bought by Transneft, the building has been the headquarters of the largest state-owned oil pipeline company in the world. The tower is 255 metres and 55 floors high and is now the largest and most efficient office building in Russia. It is lit entirely by LEDs and boasts one of the most sophisticated management and control systems on the planet.

Listen to the sequence of tones. Maybe adjust volume. The tone rises in pitch from step to step – and continues to do so, endlessly. Really? That’s impossible…

Roger Shepard invented this acoustic illusion in 1964. His basic idea was as follows: When the pitch rises one step, the harmonic composition is altered (a little less high, a little more low harmonics). This is done in such a way that after 11 steps the harmonic content corresponds nearly to a tone one octave lower. With the next step the sequence resorts to the first one.
