It's no surprise that Pfizer made the list at number 10, given its important role in the fight against COVID-19. In partnership with BioNTech, Pfizer created a vaccine against COVID-19 in less than a year. This is impressive, considering that in the past, vaccine development could take up to ten years.
Meanwhile, in a completely different industry, Toyota ranked 21st on this year's list, up 20 positions from last year's ranking. This jump can be explained by the recent investment of $400 million in the company, which is going to create flying electric cars.
The Coca-Cola Company analyzed its beverage portfolio and ended up cutting its list of brands in half, from 400 to 200 global brands. This ability to downsize and pivot could be the reason for a 20 position increase from 2020.
And yet, despite the value of innovation, many companies fail to take advantage of it because they are not ready to scale their innovation practices. Today, only 20% of companies are ready to scale innovation.
