The red howler Alouatta seniculus is distributed from Colombia | Wildlife

The red howler Alouatta seniculus is distributed from Colombia to the Amazon and from Ecuador to central Bolivia.

These unhurried animals slowly climb trees, covering a distance of about 400 m per day. They are active mainly in the morning and afternoon hours. At night they sleep in trees.

The body length of the male is 50-70 cm, females 45-55 cm. Males weigh 6.5-8 kg, females from 4.5 to 6.4 kg.

Red howlers, like most other monkeys, have developed social behavior. Animals are grouped into groups numbering from five to twenty individuals. The group is headed by an old male. Other mature males also claim to be the leader of the group, so there are often clashes between them for primacy.

The diet includes peanuts, tree foliage, various seeds, fruits and flowers
