The grizon (huron)
Galictis vittata is a predator from the marten family, living from eastern Mexico to Bolivia, Argentina and Santa Catarina in Brazil.
The body length of the grison is 45-55 cm, the tail is 13-19 cm, the weight is 1.5-3.8 kg. The body is slender, with short legs. The color of the back is smoky gray, part of the muzzle below the forehead, the lower part of the neck and belly are painted black. A white stripe on the forehead runs along the sides of the neck to the shoulders.
In case of danger, the grison makes a warning sound and jumps to the side, raising its tail and spraying a fragrant secret from the anal glands.
The grison feeds on small mammals, birds and their eggs, lizards, amphibians and fruits. It hunts both alone and in pairs or groups. He eats his prey in a specially designated place.
The grison keeps mainly on the ground, less often on trees or bushes. Animals swim well, sometimes dive, holding their breath for half a minute.
