The Utah County Sheriff's Department, USA, is investigating a series of reports of "ritual sexual abuse of children" and a trafficking gang for the purpose of sexual exploitation committed by high-ranking officials in the state for more than two decades.
The Utah County Sheriff's Office has not disclosed the identities of the suspects under investigation, but "some of the subjects of the investigation are high-ranking residents of Utah," Fox13 reports.

The department's announcement of the investigation prompted Utah County Prosecutor David Leavitt to hold a press conference calling for the resignation of Sheriff Mike Smith for "misuse of taxpayer and county resources." Leavitt claimed that he and his wife were involved in the investigation and accused of ritual abuse and cannibalism.
