US airlines warn 5G wireless could become “catastrophic failure of government”
Plans to roll out AT&T and Verizon Communications 5G wireless services could lead to thousands of flights being disrupted and cost passengers $1.6bn annually in delays, according to United Airlines CEO Scott Kirby.
He estimates the setup could delay about 4% of flights every day, impacting hundreds of thousands of passengers, and claims it would prevent over 40 of the largest US airports from using radio altimeters.
One wireless trade group, CTIA, hit back, claiming "the aviation industry’s fearmongering relies on completely discredited information and deliberate distortions of fact."
