Today in 1415 John Huss was burned at the stake for preaching the Gospel in the lands of Bohemia(modern day Czechia). Proto-Protestant, a Czech reformer and is seen as the founder for the modern day Moravian Church. He was opposed to preaching in Latin to the people of Bohemia and preached in his native tongue resulting in his movement gaining a lot of momentum. Huss was famous for predicting the rise of Martin Luther as well by saying, “Today you burn a goose, but in one hundred years a swan will arise which you will prove unable to boil or roast.”. The goose part is quite interesting since the word for goose in Czech is husa and the swan being one of the most popular symbols of the Reformation.
