Yesterday we reviewed an interview we did in South Africa about farm murders for our documentary. Today I got the news that my parents in South Africa had been attacked in their home last night. A bullet narrowly missed my father, my parents were kicked and beaten.

They took mobile phones, tablets and my grandmother's wedding ring. A human life means nothing to these criminals who will probably never be caught. South Africa is a beautiful country, but you live there every day in fear for your loved ones.

My parents will be told they were lucky nothing worse happened to them, because South Africans have come to expect worse when their homes are raided. Fuck off your with mythological "Rainbow Nation". It never existed.

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa said on Monday the country's non-aligned position did not favour Russia over other states and reiterated its call for a peaceful resolution to the conflict in Ukraine.

His comments in a weekly presidential newsletter came on the heels of U.S. allegations last week.

"We do not accept that our non-aligned position favours Russia above other countries. Nor do we accept that it should imperil our relations with other countries," Ramaphosa said. South Africa would continue to honour international agreements and treaties it is a signatory to and its approach to U.S. allegations of arms shipment would abide by them, he added.

The South African and United States Cabinet officials responsible for foreign affairs have stepped into the diplomatic row over the alleged transfer in South Africa of weapons to a Russian cargo vessel last December.

Amid controversy over an American claim that South Africa has supplied weapons and ammunition to a nation which has launched a war of aggression against Ukraine, South Africa's foreign minister, Naledi Pandor, and U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken spoke with one another late Friday about what Blinken described as "the vital U.S.-South Africa relationship."

The U.S.-government funded news agency, Voice of America, described the row as a diplomatic spat which "has put relations between the two friendly nations at their lowest ebb in years."

Blinken's call to Pandor was made after South Africa summoned the U.S. ambassador to South Africa, Reuben Brigety, in a diplomatic démarche to protest his remarks on Thursday that the U.S. is "confident" that weapons and ammunition were loaded onto the cargo ship Lady R at the South African naval base in Simon's Town, near Cape Town, in December 2022.
