Johnson and Biden to Draft New Atlantic Charter to "Defend Democracy"
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and US President Joe Biden on Thursday in Cornwall, England, will hold their first face-to-face meeting ahead of the G7 summit scheduled for June 11-13 in the town of Carbis Bay.
As a result of negotiations between Johnson and Biden, the parties should adopt a new Atlantic Charter to "protect democracy", the British Prime Minister's Office said.
It is noted that the document being prepared will be similar in spirit to the 1941 Atlantic Charter, signed by British Prime Minister Winston Churchill and 32nd US President Franklin Roosevelt, which laid the foundations for the future post-war world.
The document will list eight areas in which the UK and the US will agree to cooperate "for the benefit of humanity."
Among the priorities:
Protection of democracy;
Ensuring collective security;
Building a fair and reliable trading system;
Fight against cyber attacks;
Climate change;
Restoration of the economy after the coronavirus pandemic.
