Last week, Israel banned the sale of natural fur for clothing.
According to the Israeli Environment Minister, "The fur industry is causing the death of hundreds of millions of animals around the world, and is associated with indescribable cruelty and suffering."
At the state level, this is the first time in the world (not counting individual initiatives in the US states).
Basically, the prohibition of the production of fur, of their own free will, are the clothing companies themselves.
The trend emerged about five years ago, and today brands such as Chanel, Stella McCartney, Jean Paul Gaultier, Burberry, Gucci, Versace have already officially abandoned natural fur. As a result, down jackets and colored fur coats that filled the streets of large cities became fashionable.
However, there are opponents to the prohibition of natural fur. Their arguments:
Synthetic fibers and refined products used in the production of eco-fur take a long time to decompose and do not add anything good to modern ecology.
The ban on fur for reasons of humanity will inevitably actualize the conversation about the ethics of using leather products, eating meat, and so on.
And humanity is clearly not ready for this, no matter how vegans seduce everyone with celery and acai berries.
