Your own profile
- Open Telegram Settings and find Username in your profile.
- Set an available username if you do not have one. Your display name is a separate field.
- Copy the link shown by Telegram, usually
https://t.me/username, and share it with the intended person.
A username lets someone contact you without your having to publish a phone number. Check your phone-number privacy settings separately. If you change the username, update any links on your website or other profiles.
A public group or channel
Open the chat, then tap or click its name to view its profile. Find the public link and use the copy or share action. On phones this may appear after holding the link; Telegram Desktop commonly offers a context menu. Copying from the app avoids typing errors and lookalike characters.
If you are still choosing a destination, use the channel directory or group directory. Compare the username and description as well as the display name: different chats can use the same name and image.
A private invitation
An administrator with the necessary permission can open the chat’s management settings and Invite Links. Invitations can expire, have a usage limit or require administrator approval. Share the correct invitation for the intended audience; an ordinary member may need to ask an administrator for one.
Keep private invitations out of public pages unless open distribution is intended. Revoking an invitation stops that link from admitting new members; it is not the same operation as removing everyone who previously joined.
A link to one message
Open the message menu and select Copy Link if available. A public post link usually includes the chat’s username and a message number. Private chat links may use a /c/ path and only work for people with access. Ordinary one-to-one messages do not have a public post link you can hand to anyone.
When the recipient cannot open it
Check for extra punctuation, a changed username, an expired invitation and missing membership. If the recipient has requested to join, they may need administrator approval first. Do not solve an access problem by sharing private conversation contents without the participants’ consent.
