American aircraft maker Boeing has boosted the confidence of electric flying taxi maker Wisk by investing a further $450 million in its mission to build an autonomous and electric vertical take-off and landing. California-based Wisk is already owned by Boeing and Kitty Hawk, a firm founded by Larry Page.
eVTOLs are the next big thing in urban mobility. Even as Elon Musk takes the laborious approach of boring tunnels under the ground to move within the city, startups are taking to the skies to solve the problem of congestion on the roads. Aiding their progress is the NASA in the U.S., which has helped startups conduct flight tests for their air vehicle concepts and even experiment with fuel sources like hydrogen.

A new Boeing hypersonic aircraft concept could act as a spiritual successor to the Mach 3 SR-71 Blackbird.
The strike and reconnaissance aircraft could, in theory, fly at five times the speed of sound. That’s thanks to a “waverider” configuration that would see the aircraft use its own shock waves produced during flight to increase lift and reduce drag.

What happens when an aircraft is no longer needed and its engines are turned off and allowed to cool down for the final time? What comes after that?
Airlines may put retired aircraft in open-air aviation museums, such as the renowned Concorde or the Tupolev Tu-144, but the majority of such aircraft end up in "boneyards" or "graveyards" after they retire. Thousands of aircraft, for example, are kept in vast boneyards, dotting the deserts of the southwest United States.
If you were to drive along South Kolb Road in Tucson, Arizona, you'd notice that the familiar houses soon give way to something much stranger: rows of aircraft, ranging in size from massive cargo lifters to heavy bombers, stretched out all motionless and quiet in the blazing desert sun.
