The vertical section of soil that shows the presence of distinct horizontal layers is known as the soil profile (SSSA 2008). 

O horizon: consists of Organic matter , 3 subclasses
--> Oe( hemic); Oi(fibric); Oa(Sapric)
A horizon: It's Top/Surface soil = OM+ soil minerals.
E horizon: Zone of leaching, It's Eluvial layer, light colored.
B horizon: Zone of accumulation, illuvated clay particles from above layers.
C horizon: Transition zone between bedrock and soil layers.
R horizon: Bedrock, deepest layer of soil profile, contains rocks.

Regolith: "The unconsolidated mantle of weathered rock & soil material on the Earth's surface which extends from soil surface to the bottom of the parent material".(SSSA 2008)

Solum: The weathered soil material in the upper soil horizons (typically A, E, & B horizons) located above the parent material (C horizon) Open / Comment
