Abū al-Faḍl informed me that Aswad b. Sālim said: “If the āthar comes we throw the opinions of Abū Ḥanīfah and his companions in the garbage.”
حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو الْفَضْلِ، حَدَّثَنِي أَسْوَدُ بْنُ سَالِمٍ، قَالَ: «إِذَا جَاءَ الْأَثَرُ أَلْقَيْنَا رَأْيَ أَبِي حَنِيفَةَ وَأَصْحَابِهِ فِي الْحُشِّ»،

Then Aswad said to me: “Upon you are the narrations so abide by them, I have come to know about the hatred of the people of knowledge for the opinions of Abū Ḥanīfah and they shame him.”
ثُمَّ قَالَ لِي أَسْوَدُ: «عَلَيْكَ بِالْأَثَرِ فَالْزَمْهُ أَدْرَكْتُ أَهْلَ الْعِلْمِ يَكْرَهُونَ رَأْيَ أَبِي حَنِيفَةَ وَيَعِيبُونَهُ»
