al-Shaʿbī said: “If al-Shīʿah were from the birds, they would be vultures and if they were from the animals, they would be donkeys.”

قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ الضَّرِيرُ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مَالِكُ بْنُ مِغْوَلٍ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ، قَالَ: «لَوْ كَانَتِ الشِّيعَةُ مِنَ الطَّيْرِ كَانُوا رَخَمًا وَلَوْ كَانُوا مِنَ الدَّوَابِّ كَانُوا حَمِيرًا»
