Colorado police and paramedics who stopped and treated Elijah McClain made a series of crucial errors that ended in the young man's 2019 death, findings of an independent probe revealed. McClain was stopped on Aug. 24, 2019 in Aurora by officers answering a call reporting a suspicious person in the area.

The initial stop of McClain was questionable, as "none of the officers articulated a crime that they thought Mr. McClain had committed, was committing or was about to commit," the report found.

2021-02-22 23:39:49 Former Florida police officer and Marine Corps veteran is the latest person to be charged with taking part in the Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol.

Court documents filed Sunday show that Nicholas Lentz is charged in a criminal complaint with illegally being in a restricted building and disruptive and disorderly conduct.

Lentz, 41, is a former North Miami Beach police officer who also served with the Marines in Afghanistan and Iraq, according to an FBI affidavit. There have been numerous people affiliated with law enforcement and the military charged with participating in the riot. Lentz was identified though Facebook posts. What an odd world we are living in.

NO SWEEPS, NO EVICTIONS

The city of Austin intends to sweep 17 camps starting tomorrow. Residents are still recovering from the deep freeze and many are still sheltering at hotels or warming centers. Just as the city swept camps in the first days of the freeze and refused to open cold weather shelters 24/7 they are proceeding as if all this were “normal”.

Many of those who are in hotels have not even gotten to return to camp to survey the damage. The city crews will almost certainly use this opportunity to throw away crucial life-saving gear they deem unsightly, as they have in previous cases. This is an almost unthinkable act of cruelty.

Residents of hotels are also facing a deadline. Mutual Aid Funds have brooked hotels through Tuesday and the city refuses to step in to keep people sheltered there.

2021-02-22 20:22:31 Call City Manager Cronk and demand the city Stop The Sweeps and ensure no-one is evicted from hotels. Call the Hotel associations and demand they keep people inside for free until the city acts. This crisis is in their hands!

Defend the camps and hotels!

2021-02-20 00:11:51 Chicago police showed "confusion and lack of coordination" in their response to last summer's protests sparked by the death of George Floyd, according to a new watchdog report, which said officers frequently did not understand who was in charge or how to handle sometimes violent demonstrators.

The report released Thursday by the city's inspector general, Joseph Ferguson, amounts to a stinging critique of Mayor Lori Lightfoot and Chicago Police Superintendent David Brown, saying the direction the police were given led to "strategic and tactical incoherence." I wonder what would happen if cops were "well" prepared...

Another broken promise of the Biden administration. The seven-page guidance can generally be characterized as a return to form viz. immigration enforcement under the Obama administration.
