Some people say the best way to improve public health is by increasing the number of sport facilities. Others, however, say that this would have little effect on public health and that other measures are required. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
It is the view of some that provision of more places such as gyms and fitness clubs is the most viable way to better the health of individuals. However, in my opinion, I believe that relying on sports facilities to ensure public health would be rather an unrealistic expectation, calling for other measures to take.
On the one hand, many consider sports facilities to be the best solution to improving public health. This viewpoint is attributed to the sedentary lifestyle that many people lead and the lack of gyms and fitness clubs available across, for example, rural areas. Providing people with the right sports equipment in their neighborhood, as a result, is thought to motivate them to exercise regularly and keep fit. Some may also think the increasing number of sports clubs would make them a lot cheaper, another possible motive for people to attend them more.
However, the question of to what extent people will be attracted to gyms arises, due to their tight schedule. In addition, if people are willing to take up sports activities, they will do so, without needing to await the introduction of sports facilities, since most of the sport exercises can be done without special tools. Another point is the unhealthy diet people have. As long as people continue eating fast food, smoke and drink, the effect of sports on their health stays minor. Thus, these factors require rather a more practical measure to the problem.
To conclude, it is true that construction of more sports buildings enhances people’s health to a degree. Nevertheless, considering this the best approach to the issue is rather far-fetched because of certain reasons stated above.
