A Dream Home for Hobbit Lovers
The 'Spiral Garden' home on Awaji Island, Japan, was created by Ryuichi Ashizawa Architects & Associates as an unusual housing that considers the natural landscape in several ways. The house was built with locally obtained wood and dirt and has a spiraling upwards shape with a greenery-covered roof. This saves energy by gathering rainwater, which is then utilized to chill the house in the summer for a more environmentally friendly design.
The interior of the 'Spiral Garden' house is decorated with traditional Tataki flooring, which blends soil limestone and water till it solidifies for an eco-friendly yet ultra-durable surface.
