Moxie – Robot-Friend For Kids
Startup Embodied has created "Moxie," a robot designed to help children learn social and emotional skills. According to the company, it uses machine-learning technology "that allows it to recognize, process and respond to natural conversation, eye contact, facial expressions, and other behaviors." Those reactions are also said to turn out very believable.
A platform called SocialX promises to allow children to interact naturally with Moxie through facial expressions, body language, and conversation. As a quasi-life-filled companion, the robot is thus intended to contribute positively to child development. "Each week there is a different theme such as kindness, friendship, empathy or respect, and children are given the task of helping Moxie with missions that explore human experiences, ideas, and life skills," the manufacturer says.
Activities range from drawing to breathing exercises and meditation to reading and "exploring ways to be kind to others."
