Maicat – Robot-Cat With Artificial Intelligence
Macroact, a robotics development lab based in South Korea, has released its first artificial intelligence-based pet. Designed for education and entertainment. Maicat was launched on Kickstarter in late February 2022 after several years of development and testing.
Using its sensors, Maicat is able to detect obstacles and walk around the house on its own. Using a laser rangefinder and gyroscope, it can adapt to thick carpets and unexpected obstacles. Maicat has software for face, voice, and emotion recognition. Combined with an AI learning algorithm, Maicat can identify its owners and respond to their moods.
Maicat is a great platform to get students interested in STEM topics. With the app and Maicat SDK, students can learn artificial intelligence, programming, robotics, and facial recognition.
