The impact of male burials on the construction of Corded Ware identity: By adopting a practice perspective combined with similarity indexes and network representations of 1161 Corded Ware burials throughout north-western Europe, we demonstrate the existence of strongly interconnected Corded Ware communities. Furthermore, we show that men’s burials are far more similar across regions as compared to women’s burials. This corroborates the image of a male focused society as suggested by recent aDNA results. Simultaneously we argue that despite the greater female mobility in life, as shown by isotope analyses, women’s burial practices are distinctly local. This implies that the male burial practice is the prime vector of cultural information exchange between Corded Ware communities.

2022-08-15 22:15:09 The Dorians are often said to originate in the mountainous regions of Epirus, although the fact that Macedon was a Doric state suggests their ethnogenesis may have occurred farther north still. It's worth noting here that Greek speakers began migrating into the Greek peninsula ca 2000 BCE, from the steppe via the north-east Balkan route – dialectical variation would've begun long before the events of the Greek Dark Age / Bronze Age Collapse (ca 1200 BCE).

2022-08-14 23:45:07 Verbatim dedication text for the Sun, Helios:

To you, O Sun, the people of Dorian Rhodes set up this bronze statue reaching to Olympus, when they had pacified the waves of war and crowned their city with the spoils taken from the enemy. Not only over the seas but also on land did they kindle the lovely torch of freedom and independence. For to the descendants of Herakles belongs dominion over sea and land.

2022-06-23 22:30:26 The fifth picture is the scene of Desolation. The sun has just set, the moon ascends the twilight sky over the ocean, near the place where the sun rose in the first picture. Day-light fades away, and the shades of evening steal over the shattered and ivy-grown ruins of that once proud city. A lonely column stands near the fore ground, on whose capitol, which is illumined by the last rays of the departed sun, a heron has built her nest. The doric temple and the triumphal bridge, may still be recognised among the ruins. But, though man and his works have perished, the steep promontory, with its insulated rock, still rears against the sky unmoved, unchanged. Violence and time have crumbled the works of man, and art is again resolving into elemental nature. The gorgeous pageant has passed — the roar of battle has ceased — the multitude has sunk in the dust — the empire is extinct.
