On 29th June 2021, as part of AVI’s Flagship Training Programme on “Geopolitics and Foreign Policy Analysis” for Cambodian journalists, AVI hosted a special lecture presented by Dr. Nhem Boraden, a Lecturer of Department of International Studies (DIS) of the Royal University of Phnom Penh (RUPP). In the session, he highlighted the importance of geographical locations and natural resources in certain regions, especially those of the Middle East, South China Sea and the Korean Peninsula. He also emphasised geopolitical theories which can be served as a basis of analysis for participants. Dr. Boraden presented the power of geographical locations of some states and their roles in diplomatic, economic, and geopolitical fronts, as well as in the international community. In addition, he shared his own perspectives on some states’ roles in the Indo-Pacific and the Middle East amidst the geopolitical rivalries among great powers and potential implications of those rivalries.
