2021-05-25 14:21:54 Static Discharge (sometimes referred to as St. Elmo’s fire (огни святого Эльма) is a visible luminous electrical discharge observed around parts of an aircraft when the electrical charge on the aircraft becomes sufficiently intense.

It occurs when the atmosphere becomes charged and an electrical potential strong enough to cause a discharge (plasma), which is created between an object and the air around it.

While not a hazard in itself, it is an indication of Thunderstorm activity and may be a precursor (предвестник) to a Lightning strike.

It can sometimes be heard "singing" on the aircraft's radio, a frying or hissing sound running up and down the musical scale. Open / Comment

Virga is often seen as a short curtain of rain underneath a cloud.

It also has the meanings "сильно", "серьезно", "тяжело" which are more commonly used, even in Aviation English.

to be badly damaged- быть сильно поврежденным
The main gear is badly damaged after the landing, we can't move on our own.

To be badly wounded- быть тяжело раненным
All people were alive and kicking and only two flight attendants were badly wounded.

To want something badly-хотеть чего-то очень сильно
I dream about working for Austrian Airlines.I want it badly.
