Ethidium bromide is very often used as a tag for nucleic acids because it is intercalating with these. If you want to use this just add 1 µL to your agarose gel before running the electrophoresis. To see results you need to expose the stained nucleic acids to ultraviolet light.
Most times ethidium bromide (also called EtBr) is used for restriction digests.
